About

Revolution Barber Company was opened in July 2015 by Courtney Caruso.

“I believe in standards not rules. My standards consist of honesty, cleanliness, consistency, and the ability to remain humble. I believe that if my staff also believes in these standards, we can continue to grow and be successful.

I hire people not based on their skill level, but on their personality. In our industry, we are one of the last face to face professions. There will never be a computer that will replace a barber. They tried years ago with “the Flobee” and failed miserably. You can’t replace personality and conversation. Barbers are one of the only professions left where we can physically touch another human and not get sued. We show up to work on time, provide a good haircut for each customer, instantly making them feel better about themselves, ring them out, and then we repeat this process 15 more times throughout our day. Consistency.

With my teaching experience combined with my years of experience in cosmetology and barbering, I can teach a person to be great in their craft. What I can not teach, is for a person to not be an asshole. Honesty.

Our tools to perform our work haven’t changed much in the last 100 years other than adding a motor to our clippers to enhance the consistency of our haircuts. As long as we maintain their care, our tools will last another 100 years. Cleanliness. A barber’s tools are an extension of themselves.

I am also not above my fellow employees. I believe you can never stop learning. The day you believe you have achieved success without knowledge, is the day you begin to fail. You can’t fail if you keep trying and practicing new things. I have a hard time calling myself a boss. I work hard right alongside of my employees who work equally hard. When you have to keep reminding people that you’re the boss... you’re not the boss, you’ve just lost your ability to remain humble.

Our job is not simple. Barbers can change the emotions of people not just their physical appearance. I had a customer years ago come in right before we closed one evening. I decided to stay even though I was already late to come home to my family. I did my job, gave this person a haircut, and sent them on their way.

A few weeks later, the same customer came in and said, “you probably don’t remember me, but I came in one night and you cut my hair after closing time. You told me that your family was waiting dinner for you. I just want to say thank you again and for saving my life. See, I was planning on going home that night to kill myself. I didn’t want them to find me looking like a mess. Something about how you made me feel about myself changed my mind.”

That rocked my world. From that point forward I learned to not judge, not to assume that everyone’s life has the same story. I’m proud to call myself a barber. I’m proud of my career. I’m proud of my shop and I’m proud of my employees because each of them possess my four standards and apply them every day.”

Be honest.
Be clean.
Be consistent.
Be humble.
